The theater is the national Danish performing arts institute located at Kongens Nytorv in Copenhagen. It was founded in 1748, Were it served as the theatre of the king. But later it became a national theatre.

 

 The Theatre exhibit various things such as Opera, the Royal Danish Ballet, multi-genre concerts, and drama in various locations. The Royal Danish Theatre s controlled by the Danish Ministry of Culture.

1. The Theater was Reconstructed in 1774

 

The first theatre was designed by rchitect Nicolai Eigtved.  Who was also the mastermind of the  Amalienborg Palace.?

 In 1774, the theatre’s seating arrangement of  800 people was reconstructed by architect C.F. Harsdorff to accommodate a large audience.

2. The Royal Theater has the Oldest Ballet School

The Theater is well known for the development of different art schools. The oldest school is called ballet school, which was established in 1771 at the theatre.

After two years, a vocal academy school was established, the school was a  forerunner for the opera academy.  Various initiatives have been witnessed at the theater such as a drama school which was established later at the theater.

 

3. King Frederick VI Managed the Theater in 1808

 

King Frederik VI, who ruled from  1808, became the monarch who dedicated most of his time to the management of the Royal Danish Theatre. He did this as a supreme executive chef.

 

The accounts of the theatre indicate numerous endorsements by the king. They show that the king made personal decisions on everything.  This included wage increases and also bonuses on the purchase of ballerinas’ shoelaces. This occasion turned the Royal Danish Theatre to be a preoccupation of an introvert.

 

4. A Young Story Teller Devoted his Life at the Theater

 

The Royal Danish Theater hosted a 14-year-old fairytale storyteller called Hans Christian Andersen who devoted his early ambition to the theater. It also became the theatre of the social and artistic focal point, for brilliant artists of Denmark’s Golden Age.

 

5. It was Owned by the State in 1849

monarch’s reign was abolished in 1849, and the Royal Danish Theatre’s status changed from “the city’s theatre”. The theater no longer enjoyed the monopoly of the performing arts.

 

The Royal Danish Theatre was required by State who was its new owner, to serve the whole nation. The theater at  Kongens Nytorv found it very hard to compete with the newest popular stage that was emerging in the town.

The solution to this change was to construct a new theatre building. The theater building was designed using the Historicist style of architects William Dahlerup and Ove Pedersen. It was situated alongside the old theatre which was demolished

6.The 250 Years Old Theatre has Undergone Different Transformations

The Royal Danish Theatre which is over 250 years old,  had in the past decade undergone differente transformations in history. In 2005 January, the opera  House located in Copenhagen was inaugurated, it was donated by the AP Møller and Chastine Mc-Kinney Møller Foundation.  The opera house was designed by architect Henning Larsen.  

In 2008 the Royal Danish Playhouse was also completed. The playhouse which is currently  Located at the Nyhavn Canal from the Opera House was designed by architects Boje Lundgaard and Lene Tranberg.

Curly, the Royal Danish Theatre has the Old Stage, located at Kongens Nytorv, the Opera House and the Royal Danish Playhouse.

 

7. A -31 -Year Old is Expected to be The Next Loyal Danish Theatre Leader

 

Marie Jacquot who is 31 year old is among the talented international conductors of her generation. This is not only due to her musical curiosity but also broad repertoire, tireless work ethic, and irresistible enthusiasm, on and off the podium.

When she Conducted at the theatre in 2021, the Artistic Director John Fulljames was amazed.  He praised her by saying,  “Marie had the most extraordinary impact during the production of Faust earlier this season.

Not just leading outstanding musical performances but also inspiring chor, us, soloists and orchestra in equal measure. It was immediately clear that there is a very strong chemistry to build upon.  The Royal Danish Theatre and its audiences would benefit hugely from a relationship with this rapidly rising star in the years to come. I am thrilled that this artist will build a strong relationship with The Royal Danish Theatre in the years to come,”

On her remarks she said that, “It is my honor and great pleasure to be part of the future creative team at the Royal Danish Theatre.  a team devoted to entertaining, informing, and inspiring their audiences. From the very beginning of our collaboration, I felt this strong bond of sharing, with music being in the center.”

8.The Loyal Danish Theatre has a Statue of Ludving Holberg

At the entrance of the theatre there are two statues. One is for  Ludvig Holberg. A son of Bergen who was born in Norway. He is the founder of both modern Danish and Norwegian literature. He played a key role in the reviving of the  Danish theatre.

9.Adam Oehlenschläger Statues is on the Left Side of the Entrance

On the left stands the sstatueof Adam Oehlenschläger who was Da anish poet and playwright is placed  He was among the pioneers in 1the 800s of a romantic movement in Europe.

He is remembered because he introduced romanticism into Spanish literature. He wrote the Danish National anthem in beautiful lyrics. The lyrics capture the national pride in poetic flight. Some of the lyrics say that “Our old Denmark shall endure, as long as the beech-trees mirror their tops in the blue waves beyond”

Due to its rich history of Danish artists, the Royal Danish Theatre attracts many visitors from all over the world and also from the country. The theatre serves as a school for the younger generation to learn about the country’s history.
