10 Things You Need to Know About Japanese Actress Keiko Kitagawa


 

Keiko Kitagawa was born on August 22, 1986, in Kobe, Japan. She is a Japanese actress and model. She worked as a model from 2003 to 2006 for Japanese Seventeen magazine. When she completed her contract at Seventeen magazine she focused on acting.

She secured her first role in acting in back 2003 as ‘Sailor Mars in the Sailor Moon live-action show. Since then, she has been featured in many successful films and Television dramas.

In 2016, Keiko married Daigo in a lavish wedding which took place in Grand Prince Hotel Shin-Takanawa. It is interesting to know that she married an actor like her. Daigo despite being an actor is also a singer-songwriter and voice actor. The couple is blessed with one child.

Keiko has been lucky to be chosen and awarded different awards. In 2008, she was awarded 55th The Television Drama Academy Awards: Special Award. Later in 2015, she was awarded the 39th Elan d’or Awards: Newcomer of the Year.

1. Keiko is a Former Model

Kitagawa is a former model of seventeen magazine model. It is funny how she ended up being a model. When she was in high school, she was scouted by a talent agency and she decided to join the entertainment field.

Her parents were against it since she was still in school and they wanted her to focus on her studies and graduate from a university. However, she proved them wrong when she won Miss Seventeen in 2003 and landed a modelling job with Japanese Seventeen magazine.

She worked with them from late 2003 until mid-2006 when she graduated from the magazine in September. She quit modelling when she left the magazine and focused on acting only.

She has several nicknames such as Kei-chan and Kii-tan. Kii-tan is said to be the nickname she used during elementary school.

3. She is Married to Actor Daigo

It is interesting to know that despite Kitagawa being an actress she married an actor. She was married back on January 11, 2016, and their wedding ceremony took place at Grand Prince Hotel Shin-Takanawa.

 She is married to Daigo a Japanese actor, singer-songwriter, and voice actor who was born on April 8, 1978, in Nakano, Tokyo, Japan. Daigo was widely known for his acting role as Yukichi Oishi in Love Shuffle. He has worked with Victor Entertainment and Zain Record which have helped him in his successful journey.

Some of the films and dramas Daigo has featured in include Fortuna’s Eye (2019), The Lies She Loved (2017), and Stand Up! Vanguard (September 2012), Kimi ga Odoru, Natsu (September 2010), Stand Up!! As Shin and Nisekoi (2018) among others.

 4. During her Childhood She Wanted to be a Doctor

When actress Keiko was a child, she dreamed and wished to be a doctor when she grows up. It is surprising how she ended up being an actress and a model. However, when she was in high school level, she never knew what to specialize in anymore.

During this time a talent agency reached out to her and she decided to try the entertainment world. Her parents were not in support of that, all they wanted is her to focus on her studies and graduate to pursue her career.

Keiko was so lucky and within a week after joining the agency, she was selected to be a model and an actress. That is how her acting and modelling career began and her desire of being a doctor died.

5. She has Appeared in Several Films

When Keiko stopped modelling for Japanese Seventeen in mid-2006 she decided to focus on acting and stop modelling.  At first, she focuses on films before joining television drama in late 2007.

Some of the films she has starred in include Mizu ni Sumu Hana (2006), The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006), Mamiya Kyōdai (2006), Cherry Pie (lead role) (2006), Southbound (2007), Handsome Suit (2008), I’ll Pay (2009), After the Flowers (lead role) (2010), Matataki (lead role) (2010), and Piecing Me Back Together (2010) among others.

6. Won Several Awards

When it comes to acting Keiko does an amazing job. When you watch television dramas and films, she has starred in you will wish to watch more and more of her. Due to her excellent acting skills, she has won different awards.

In 2008, Kitagawa was awarded a Special Award: 55th The Television Drama Academy Awards. Kitagawa has appeared in many television dramas. Back in 2007, she had her first leading role in a Television drama known as Mob Girl. Later she secured other leading roles in Buzzer Beat (2009), Lady: Saigo no Hanzai Profile (2010), The After-Dinner Mysteries (2011) and Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni (2011) among others.

 Other drama series she has featured in include Piecing Me Back Together (2003- 2004), Taiyo to Umi no Kyoshitsu (2008), Hostess with a Pen (2010), and A Swinging Single (2013) among others.
