Vélib’ Métropole, is a new generation self-service bicycle hire scheme with mechanical (green) and electric (blue) bicycles that are charged at stations. It is a pioneer of bike-sharing service in the world. 

This public sharing system was launched on 15 July 2007 by introducing 7,000 bicycles to the city, distributed among 750 automated rental stations, with fifteen or more bicycle parking slots each. Today it is a large-scale public bicycle sharing system that encompassed around 14,500 bicycles and 1,400 bicycle stations located across Paris and in some surrounding municipalities. 

To use Vélib’ Métropole swipe your credit card at any station around Paris to rent a bike for a day or a week. There is a token fee you will pay for as many trips you take throughout the time of use. However, if you biked for less than 30 minutes, you will not be charged more than the regular fee.
