Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio is a rapper, singer, actor, and wrestler. He is popularly known as Bad Bunny, and his music genres are mainly Latin trap, reggaeton, and dancehall. Standing at 5 feet 11 inches tall, Bad Bunny is still one of the biggest stars in the world.  

This curly-haired singer has taken over the Latin Trap scene, releasing hit songs that dominate and top charts worldwide. He has collaborated with Nicki Minaj, Daddy Yankee, Drake, Rosalía, Cardi B, and others.

1. Bad Bunny Has Dominican and Puerto Rican Ancestry 

Benito was born on 10th March 1994 in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico where he grew up in a lower-middle-class household. His parents are Tito Martínez, a truck driver from Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, and Lysaurie Ocasio a retired teacher from Puerto Rico. 

Benito has two younger brothers, Bernie and Bysael, and he grew up speaking both Spanish and English. At home, they all listened to salsa, merengue, and ballads because those were his mother’s favorites.  

At one point worked as a supermarket attendant to pay his bills. 

2. He Began By Singing In Church

Benito discovered that he had a singing talent from when he was young. His relatives always requested him to sing whenever they visited. Being Catholic, Bad Bunny sang in the choir together with his mum until he was about 13 years old.  

He started making his own beats in his room and free-styling at school while at the same time, writing and producing his own songs. He would release the songs on Soundcloud, a platform that allows independent artists to showcase their work. That is where DJ Luian heard his songs, looked for him, and signed him up at his record label.    

Benito went to The University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo, where he studied audiovisual communication but he did not attain a degree. He dropped out of the university to focus on his musical career.    

3. He Wore A Bunny Costume Once And He Hated It 

Benito signed up on social media as Bad Bunny. The name was inspired by an incident from his past in which he had been forced to wear a bunny costume and he was not very excited about it. The images that were taken on that day tell it all. 

Normally, good bunnies are very cheerful but photos of Benito in the costume are dull because he is angry and upset, making him a bad bunny, hence the name. 

4. Bad Bunny Is A Wrestler

Bad Bunny has always been a huge fan of wrestling if his songs are anything to go by. He has always expressed his love for the sport. In fact, there is a song he sang that was inspired by Booker T, the wrestler. In 2021, he was invited to perform at the Royal Rumble, a professional wrestling match. 

As Bad Bunny was performing, Booker T joined in. From then on, he became a regular on Monday Night Raw, the weekly wrestling show. He became a wrestler in world wrestling entertainment (WWE) where he partnered with Damian Priest, a fellow Puerto Rican, and they won the WWE 24/7 Championship.

Bad Bunny calls out homophobes and openly supports queer people in his music videos. A man kissed him in his ‘Caro’ video which led to speculation about his sexuality. The artist however refuses to put labels on his sexuality whatsoever, choosing to describe it as fluid. 

He fights for LGBQ’s rights, like when he wore a shirt with the words ‘They Killed Alexa, Not a Man in a Skirt’. This brought attention to the murder of a transgender woman, Alexa Negrón Luciano, in Puerto Rico and news reporters had misreported her gender. 

On Twitter, he criticized Don Omar’s homophobic tweet. The Latin Queer Community adores him because of his open support for them. 

7. Bad Bunny Dresses In Women’s Clothes  

Bad Bunny’s alter ego is a hot woman who loves twerking and dancing. In the music video of the hit single ‘Yo Perreo Sola’, the artist is wearing full drag. At one point a drag version of Bad Bunny is seen twerking on his masculine version. When shirtless men start moving towards him as the drag queen, Bad Bunny sends them away.   

He looks really nice in a pair of thigh-high stiletto boots that matches his skirt. His makeup and outfit blend well with a deep red shade of lipstick and some eye makeup. He even has his long nails perfectly manicured and polished.

The song passes a message that a woman can dance and twerk alone in a public without men forcing themselves on her or her space.

In February 2020, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens in Florida, alongside Shakira and J. Lo, Bad Bunny was a guest performer at the Super Bowl LIV halftime show.  

This artist does songs like “Estamos Bien” that unite the people of Puerto Rico esp after disasters like Hurricane Maria. He performed the song on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and took the chance to remind America that some Puerto Rican households were still in the dark many moons later.
