Turkish Cuisine is largely the heritage of Ottoman Cuisine. The Ottomans fused various culinary traditions of their realm taking influences from various regions. Such as Mesopotamian cuisine, Greek cuisine, Levantine cuisine, and Egyptian cuisine along with traditional Turkic elements from Central Asia.

 Turkish cuisine also includes dishes invented in the Ottoman palace kitchen. Moreover, Turkish cuisine has in turn influenced those and other neighbouring cuisines.

1. Ali Güngörmüş

Chef Ali Güngörmüş was born in Tunceli in 1976. His parents and family were against him being a cook. However, he trained as a cook.

He was the first chef to bag a Michelin star. He received the Michelin star in 2006 for his restaurant, Le Canard Nouveau in Hamburg.

Interestingly, Chef Ali opened Pageou restaurant in Munich, in 2014. Pageou is the name of the village in Eastern Anatolia where Ali Güngörmüş spent the first ten years of his life. The restaurant serves bistronomy.

Ali Güngörmüş has written three cookbooks. Amazingly, he teaches his skills in Mediterranean cuisine on the first Saturday of every month in Munich.

2. Fatih Tutak

Fatih Tutak was born on 31 August 1985 in Istanbul. He received his first professional education at Bolu Mengene Culinary school.

 Chef Fatih worked in the kitchen of Marina Bay Sands. Moreover, he worked at one of the best-ranked Restaurants in the world by Restaurant Magazine’s World’s Best Restaurants. Noma was ranked as one of the best restaurants in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014 in Copenhagen.

Tutak was a Chef and Director of Culinary Operations at the House of Sathorn in Bangkok. He started to offer a menu based on Turkish cuisine in The Dining Room of The House of Sathorn. He created a dish he called ‘From my Mom’. This was his take on the Turkish dumpling.

Amazingly, he opened his first restaurant Turk Fatih Tutak in Istanbul. The restaurant was listed by CNN Travel called in their “20 of the world’s best new restaurants for 2020”

3. Dilara Erbay

 Dilara Erbay is a well-established Turkish chef and food artist. Moreover, a creative chef who developed her cuisine known as abracadabra. The cuisine is based on fresh, seasonal, natural food.

Dilara Erbay went to New York and opened an artisanal bakery in Brooklyn. she transformed her Abracadabra concept into an artisanal deli serving healthy and organic food with a Turkish twist in New York.

 4. Mehmet Gürs

Mehmet Gürs is one of the Turkish recognized Chefs. He was born to a Turkish father and Swedish-Finnish Mother.

Mehmet has recommendable cooking skills. Trained in the U.S, he brought proper American and Italian classics to his Various restaurants in Istanbul.

Mehmet has 19 successful restaurants. These include the NumNum chain, Trattoria Enzo, Terra Kitchen and even the Kronotrop speciality coffee store.

His most famous restaurant is Mikla. It was number 44 on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants” list for 2018. Amazingly, Mehmet Gürs has an educational YouTube Channel where he shares his knowledge and research of Turkish culinary traditions and heritage.

Maksut Askar is one of the famous Turkish chefs. Askar has taken a modern twist on Turkish cuisine in various restaurants. He has a cooking show on 24 kitchens.

He owns various restaurants such as Multi, LilBitz and then Sekiz Istanbul. However, Maksut Restaurant, Neolokal was listed among The World’s 50 Best Restaurants. Amazingly, Every dish at Neolokal looks like a piece of art, as Aşkar is an artist. He also held exhibitions of edible art.

Nusret left school at an early age due to economical problems. He worked at a butcher shop after dropping from school.

Chef Nusret is an expert on meat cutting. The talent came from the butcher shop work. However, he learnt his cooking skills from various restaurants. He went to places like Argentina and the USA to see, work and gain knowledge about the cooking cultures.

Nusret Gökçe opened his restaurant known as ‘Nusr-Et’. He has become an expert chef who has over four hundred employees in his restaurant.

10. Burak Özdemir
