1. Grover Cleveland

Stephen Grove Cleveland was born on March 18th 1837 in Caldwell, New Jersey. He was an American lawyer and politician who served as the 22nd and 24th President of the United States from 1885 to 1889 and from 1893 to 1897. Cleveland is the only president in American history to serve two nonconsecutive terms in office, and the first Democrat elected after the Civil War.

As president, he established the Interstate Commerce Commission; strengthened the US defenses; modernized the Navy; and handled the Venezuelan crisis of 1895. Cleveland signing into law the Interstate Commerce Act of 1887 to regulate the railroad industry, particularly its monopolistic practices. The Interstate Commerce Act was the first federal law to regulate private industry in the US.

Since he was both the 22nd and 24th president, he was featured on two separate dollar coins released in 2012 as part of the Presidential $1 Coin Act of 2005. In 2013, Cleveland was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame. In 1908, he suffered a heart attack and died on June 24 at age 71.

Born on December 12, 1915, in a Hoboken, New Jersey, Francis Albert Sinatra was an American singer and motion-picture actor who is hailed as the greatest American singer of 20th-century popular music.

Sinatra got his first break in 1935 when his mother persuaded a local singing group, the 3 Flashes, to let him join. With Sinatra, the group became known as the Hoboken Four, and passed an audition from Edward Bowes to appear on the Major Bowes Amateur Hour show. In 1943, he signed with Columbia Records as a solo artist.

Sinatra is estimated to have sold 150 million records worldwide. In addition to this, he was honored at the Kennedy Center Honors in 1983, was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Ronald Reagan in 1985, and the Congressional Gold Medal in 1997. Sinatra was also the recipient of eleven Grammy Awards, including the Grammy Trustees Award, Grammy Legend Award and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. He was included in Time magazine’s compilation of the 20th century’s 100 most influential people.

Sinatra died on May 14, 1998, aged 82.

3. Whitney Houston

Whitney Elizabeth Houston was an American model, singer and actress born on 9th August 1963 in Newark, New Jersey. Huston was known for her powerful, soulful vocals and vocal improvisation skills, and dubbed “The Voice” by the media.

Her success was acknowledged by a series of prestigious awards, notably two Emmy Awards, eight Grammy Awards (including Record and Album of the year wins), 14 World Music Awards, 16 Billboard Music Awards and 22 American Music Awards. Houston was inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame in 2014 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020.

Houston made her acting debut with the romantic thriller film The Bodyguard (1992). She went on to produce multicultural movies. As a model, she was one of the first black women to appear on the cover of Seventeen in 1981.

Whitney Houston died on February 11, 2012. She was 48 years old.

President Barack Obama awarded her the 2010 National Medal of Arts, and in 2014, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. O’Neal is regarded as one of the greatest basketball players and centers of all time, having played for six teams over his 19-year career in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and is a four-time NBA champion.

O’Neal’s individual accolades include the 1999–2000 Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award, the 1992–93 NBA Rookie of the Year award, 15 All-Star Game selections, three All-Star Game MVP awards, three Finals MVP awards, two scoring titles, 14 All-NBA team selections, and three NBA All-Defensive Team selections.
