There are so many wonderful neighborhoods with family-friendly features like neighborhood swimming pools and public playgrounds in Virginia Beach.

While some families appreciate the commotion of city living, many want things to be a little more dispersed. To top it all off, Virginia Beach offers a well-regarded educational system.

There is always a beach close to where you reside because of the 27 miles of coastline on the Atlantic and the more than 6 miles of coastline on the Chesapeake Bay.

When I consider the top Virginia Beach neighborhoods, there are a few spots that immediately come to mind.

Here is our list of the best family-friendly Virginia Beach neighborhoods.

1. Alanton

Alanton is one of the top spots I consider among the top Virginia Beach neighborhoods.

 It is located in the Great Neck corridor which includes some of Virginia Beach’s greatest communities.

 There are waterfront palaces with 10,000 square feet, 1700 square foot fixer-uppers, and everything in between.

The neighborhood’s focal points, Alanton Elementary School, and the community pool provide for a simple way of life.

It feels like you live in the country because the community was constructed on land that was once used for farming or agriculture.

It is also a close vicinity to both the Oceanfront and the Chesapeake Bay.

2. Kings Grant

 Kings Grant is such a wonderful place. It was one of Virginia Beach’s biggest planned communities when it was constructed throughout the 1960s and 1970s.

The renowned Kingston Elementary School is located in the heart of the neighborhood. Brill Field, which hosts neighborhood youth soccer matches, is also located here.

This is a neighborhood that has to be on your shortlist if you value a strong feeling of community and friendships with your neighbors.

3. Laurel Cove

Laurel Cove is a thoughtfully designed neighborhood in Virginia Beach’s highly sought-after Great Neck neighborhood.

The majority of the houses in the area were constructed in the 1970s, and they are a mix of ranch and two-story colonials.

It is a preferred alternative for new families because it is one of the most reasonably priced choices in the neighborhood.

 Laurel Cove is located in one of the most coveted school districts as it feeds into John B Dey Elementary, Great Neck Middle School and Cox High School.

Everyone we know who lives there adores the neighborhood and its residents, which is full of families.

4. Bay Colony

This is an excellent spot to reside if you enjoy the beach but want to avoid the noise and activity of the coastal strip.

The Atlantic Ocean is reachable by bicycle from every single residence. The houses in this neighborhood are a mix of the original beach bungalows in the cape cod style and brand-new modern single-family residences.

Some of the houses were built in the early to mid-1900s when Norfolk’s affluent elite used Virginia Beach as a weekend getaway destination.

This region has a lot to offer to the active family, with the Princess Anne Country Club Golf Course winding through the neighborhood and the coast only a 5-minute bike ride away.

5. Ashville Park

One of Virginia Beach’s greatest new construction communities is Ashville Park, located in the southern part of the city.

This community has all you need to take in Virginia Beach’s splendor, including a recently built pool and clubhouse.

You can enjoy the area’s award-winning beaches all summer long because they are just a short drive from Sandbridge Beach.

This Virginia Beach neighborhood, which was once thought of as the “country,” has witnessed an increase in contemporary amenities including shops and restaurants.

Some of Virginia Beach’s top-ranked schools are also located there. This is the ideal place to live if you want a brand-new home in a gated neighborhood. 

6. Cape Story by the Sea

This neighborhood has it all, a playground, adjacent to State Park and Bay.

The oldest 4th of July parade in Vancouver, the annual oyster roast, the Spring Fling, and Santa in the Park are all held here.

Also, competition for holiday light decorations as well as carol singing. Of course, schools near the ocean are considered to be the best and the environment ideal for a family.

The Chesapeake Bay is accessible to everyone on foot. Beach enthusiasts will adore this area.

7. Fairfield

Fairfield is an established neighborhood in the city’s Kempsville district, with easy access to the highway and prices lower than those in places nearer the seaside.

The Virginia Beach neighborhood of Fairfield has a Walk Score of 48, which indicates that it is just somewhat walkable.

It is home to approximately 2,422 people and 750 jobs. Fairfield is a popular neighborhood for home buyers and also Fairfield School District is a top-rated, public school district.

8. Middle Plantation 

Middle Plantation is a Little Neck neighborhood encircled by Lynnhaven Bay in the center of Virginia Beach.

It is the 61st most walkable neighborhood in Virginia Beach. The Little Neck neighborhood includes large homes with sizable private backyards.

Several family-friendly social events happen here. The village served as the Virginia Colony’s capital. 

The pineapple began to adorn dining room tables and was used as a metaphor for the warmth, friendliness, and welcome that characterize elegant home gatherings.

9. Christopher Farms

Virginia Beach’s Christopher Farms is a lovely neighborhood with roughly 300 houses. There is good shopping nearby and good access to Sandbridge.

It is both private and handy, tucked up between Holland Road and Princess Anne Road. Christopher Farms Elementary School is a fully accredited school.

It is a terrific family community since it has mature trees, wide streets, lots of walkways, and cul-de-sacs (29 in all).

10. Lake Trant

Located off Great Neck Road, Lake Trant is a lovely established community with exceptional schools, spacious lots, and near access to both the beach and Hilltop’s excellent shopping.

People who live here enjoy the neighborhood’s peaceful nature.
