Vahid Monument is located in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The AliaghaVahid Monument is a bronze memorial that was built in honor of AliaghaVahid who was a singer and poet in the year between 1895 and 1965.

The monument was constructed in 1990 and is located in the historic city center. The monument stands ten feet high which was done at St. Petersburg. It was sculpted and designed by RahibHasanov. SananSalamzade was the architect of the monument.

The sensational efforts of the architects were artistically demonstrated and addressed in the monument. Aliagha Vahid in his early life worked to help his father who was a carpenter.

He was known for his outstanding work of writing poems, especially the reintroduction of medieval ghazal style in Soviet Azerbaijani poetry. From his early poems, he was known to criticize some of the behaviors in the society which included tyranny and unfairness, narrow- mindedness and superstition.

The Monument was inspired by a Line of Verse from Vahid’s Poem

The originality and inspiration of the monument’s form and shape were based on the hemistich of the poem by AlighaVahid. It was inspired by the line “I am the successor of great Fuzuli”. The famous hemistich was nicknamed Ghazalkham (Khan of the ghazals).

The author of the poem saw the tree rising from the ground artistic sign of continuation by Vahid of the best tradition of Fuzuli. The monument uses tree portraits and tree trunks to demonstrate the traditional Fuzuli.

The monument has the appearance of a large head that is growing from a tree stump out of the ground.

It First Model was Made out of Plasticine

The first model of the statue was first made from plasticine by RahibHasanov. He was commissioned to create the sculpture by architects Jahangir Mammadov and SananSalamzade. The model of the statue was done in 1989.

The appearance of the monument depicts different episodes that are artistically demonstrated in the statue. The monument shows Vahids party, with him attending the wedding.

At the back of the head of the monuments, colleagues and friends of the poet are depicted singing ghazal and reciting poems. On the left side of the monument, it depicts, a mugham trio which is equal to the size of its ear.

It is a sign of national music, mugham, and ghazal. At the other side of the head is Vahid’s funeral which is demonstrated by women wearing headscarves and mourning. 

There is also an image at the bottom of the monument’s head that depicts the poet’s love of Fuluzi. The images assembled at the bottom of the monuments are evidence of his love for Fuluzi.

The statue shows the poet’s head taking rooting and growing like a tree. It demonstrates how the world is falling apart as a result of earthquakes but it remains intact forever.

Although Vahid was very popular for his career in poetry and as a singer, he began his life in a simple family of a carpenter. During his early years, he worked to help his father where he began to develop a passion for poetry.

After hard work, he became popularly known as he tried to reintroduce the medieval ghazal style in Azerbaijan poetry. He however began to publish his poems at an early age of 18 to 19 years where he strongly revealed the major setbacks of society.

He was also very firm in condemning human tyranny, prejudices as well as injustices. However, although he lived in the heart of people as a true national poet, he was not recognized until his death.
