1. Le Saraba  

This restaurant was started by a family from Dakar in 2017. Here you will find dishes from Senegal and neighboring West African countries. They specialize in Thieboudienne which is rice stews with vegetables and meat or fish.

Thieboudienne can be made with an assortment of different vegetables so you can easily use what you like or have on hand. It is considered the national dish of Senegal and for good reason.

This meal is the restaurant’s most popular dish. Also try ‘bissap’ (Jamaican flower water), ‘bouye’ (baobab fruit water), or ginger juice while here. For dessert, order the ‘thiagri’ (millet semolina junket). 

The walls at Saraba have portraits of Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr., Miles Davis, and Muhammad Ali.

Spice BCN opened its doors in November 2016. This unique chicken spot blends the local produce of Spain with herbs and spices imported from Africa and the Caribbean.

They specialize in cuisine from the south of Africa. The food is comforting, affordable, and delicious! It makes South Africans abroad feel like they are home and it makes non-South Africans want to visit!

They specialize in Kitfo which is minced raw beef, marinated in mitmita (a chili powder-based spice blend) and niter kibbeh (a clarified butter infused with herbs and spices). Try them to experience Ethiopian culture, food, and decorations.

The establishment is dedicated to African culture, very good customer care, and amazing Senegalese and Guinean food. The menu is not very extensive but the dishes are delicious. Also their hibiscus drink and coffee are awesome.

8. Abissinia

Located in the Gràcia neighborhood, Abissínia is a must for lovers of new experiences. The space looks original and is decorated with colorful traditional motifs. 

The chefs here prepare succulent recipes with intense and authentic textures, aromas, and flavors. They offer Meserkek (lentils cooked with onion, garlic, and berberé).

They also serve Dorowot (chicken stew with candied onion and tomato, accompanied by hard-boiled egg and cottage cheese), Tebs (lamb ribs, beef cubes, marinated chicken in sauce, sautéed with butter, onion, leeks, garlic, green peppers, and rosemary) and Ketfo (Ethiopian tartare) that is all very tasty.

The establishment is perfect for groups because they serve dishes on large platters designed to be shared.

9. Kasbah Restaurant
