Prague by Night: our best spots and ideas

When the sun sets in Prague, another city comes to life. Here are some of my favourite ways to enjoy Prague at night…

Bars and Clubs in Prague

Prague’s beer is one of the best in Europe, and is available in many different varieties. You will always be spoiled for choices. For every street you stroll through in Prague, you will notice many bars and night clubs. The night clubs run until late in the morning, and there are always people partying, why not join in? Some great night spots include Duplex – an upmarket rooftop club that overlooks Wenceslas Square, and Roxy, which always has the coolest live bands.

Pub Crawls: a good way to enjoy Prague

Pub crawls are an awesome way to experience the night-life in Prague, if that’s your kind of thing. A typical pub crawl would include, but is not limited to, the following: going to different bars and clubs, enjoying drinks, and a tour guide taking you through a Prague walking tour.

Visit the Prague Beer Museum

The beer museum is located on Dlouha Street, right in the middle of Prague’s Old Town. The pub is quite spacious, and has a variety of beers to choose from on tap. Make sure not to leave the bar without tasting the Real Deal Ale, a special kind of beer that is made specifically for the Beer Museum by the Permon Brewery. There are also beer flights of five or ten brews found at the long wooden bar. The staff is always happy to assist with flight assembly, and dinning options are also available there.

The Municipal House

This is Prague’s finest example of the Art Nouveau style. It has gorgeous artistic interiors full of intricate decoration, and is quite a sight to behold. Inside there are two restaurants; a French restaurant and the Pilsen restaurant (an underground restaurant serving authentic Czech cuisine), the oldest Prague bar – the American bar (also the second oldest in the whole of Europe), a concert venue, exhibitions, lounges, and beautiful art pieces. The building is also used to host special events and performances.

Live Music in Prague

If you are looking to enjoy live music while in Prague, then you might want to visit the Jazz Dock. Located on the banks of the Vltava, it is relatively new to the club scene and features both jazz and blues. Ungelt is also another popular Jazz & Blues Club, and is right next to the Prague Old Town Square in an underground tunnel. The entertainment normally starts at 9 p.m. and lasts until midnight. The Lucerna Music Bar is another favourite, and features international music from world-renowned musicians.

Prague Night Tours

Amazing view at night in Prague

One of the best ways to enjoy Prague is after the crowds have gone and the buildings are lit-up, it is truly magical at night. Discover Walks offers a night-time Prague Castle tour, it is a unique experience to stroll the castle grounds after dark, and catch a fabulous view of the city. Another night-time option is to take a dinner cruise along the river Vltava, you can dine while enjoying the scenery of the Charles Bridge and the Lesser Town.

Enjoy the View from the TV Tower

Prague’s TV Tower was once voted one of the ugliest buildings in the world, but don’t let that dissuade you. Formerly known as the Žižkov TV Tower (now the Tower Park Prague), the building is characterized by sculptures of ten babies climbing up the side of it. Bizarre modern art babies aside, it has one of the best views of the city. Also it is the tallest building in Prague, and the highest observatory in the Czech Republic. Standing 216 meters high, the 360 degree view of Prague is absolutely stunning.

Czech National Theatre

The Czech National Theatre has some of the best performances in opera, drama, ballet, and Laterna magika. It hosts four historic venues including the State Opera, the National Theatre, the Estates Theatre, and the New Stage. Please note that booking in advance is always advised.

Prague’s Beer Gardens

Visiting a beer garden is one of the top local things to do while in Prague. The beer gardens are very popular, especially during the summer months. The Letna beer garden is popular with the locals, it is located on Letna Hill, and has a fabulous view of the city. The Riegrovy Sady beer garden is one of the largest, and well known. The Hospůdka Na Hradbách is situated inside the walls of Vysehrad and is quite popular because of its location, especially with the younger crowd.

Prague Zoo

Prague Zoo

On Friday and Saturday nights, the Prague Zoo is open for special night tours from 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. The guides are great with children and it is a unique way to experience the zoo and seeing all of the animals. As with any other attraction in Prague, booking in advance is highly recommended (book zoo tickets with transportation by minivan from your hotel on Viator).
