OK y’all, time for a little bit of Texas two-step. Go Stand By Your Man or your German Shepherd or perhaps your local dive bar! It doesn’t really matter. Just put on your shit kickers with your spurs that jingle, jangle, jingle and sit back and enjoy the Showtimes mini-series “George and Tammy”.
You don’t have to be a country western fan to be enthralled with Jessica Chastain’s performance as Tammy Wynette. She is a wondrous chameleon of the highest order. This is nothing like her Oscar-winning “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” or her standout performances in “Molly’s Game” or “The Help”.
Add in Michael Shannon’s star turn as the off-the-rails country star George Jones and you have a brilliant country western soap opera. And, let’s just add more icing on this glorious cake – they both did their own singing!
Side note – loved the cameo inclusion of the world-famous Nudie’s Rodeo Tailors – the absolute go-to shop for their glam and glitter western outfits!
