If you are in the mood for a day trip which will take 5-6 hours, this is the best route to cycle along; this longer ride is on high-quality paths, including beautiful scenery and ends in the enchanting town of Podebrady. If you start cycling in Cerny Most, stick to the signs for route A26, which will safely take you under the motorway to the village of Horni Pocernice.

Route A26 will take you to the Horni Pocernice railway station. From the station, carry on with A26 through the village of Horni Pocernice until it becomes route 17 Jizera Greenway. This is the start of a beautiful cycle path that will take you across fields until you reach the confluence of the Labe and Jizera rivers at Lazne Tousen. Vysehrad to Cernosice/Vsenory

This cycling route is 24-27 km, completely flat cycle, great for families, and wholly off-road, so you don’t need to worry about car traffic. The cycling route starts from Vysehrad, following the sign for route A2, as it follows the upstream river path.

Trucks and cars drive past you at speed above, but there is a unique bridge for cyclists suspended under the motorway deck; this allows pedal-powered traffic to cross the joining of the Vltava and Berounka rivers safely. You will enter the village below the level crossing, where a cukrarna place faces you invitingly. This is a perfect spot for a well-earned chlebicek, ice cream and slice of cake.

At that point, you can decide to hop the train and return to Prague or continue along the cycle path, route 3, along the tracks to the next village. Take care as you enter Dolni Mokropsy as the route is on the road; follow route 3, which will take you to a picturesque iron railway bridge overhead a weir on the Berounka river, which is a favorite swimming spot and a perfect end to the trip. To return to Prague, follow route A3 for 1.5 km until you reach the Vsenory train station.

Rudolfinum to Únětický Pivovar

This is an easy ride to a brewery and the cycle is broken into two sections, with a ferry ride in between. The cycle path A2 starts on the quayside, just behind the Rudolfinum and it continues undistributed along the river to Klecany, 17.5 km further downstream. This route will take you through Karlin, Liben and Troja; it should last 1 hour and 1.5 hours to reach the Klecany ferry. After crossing the river, follow the signs for Route 8100, which brings you to the village of Roztoky.

As you enjoy the beautiful view of the village, you will exit the village through the Tiche Udoli, which transforms into a broad cycle path through a verdant forest. This path will take you directly to the village of Unetice, where the brewery is well-signposted, park up your bike, relax and enjoy a well-earned beer.

To return to Prague, head back down the forest path and along the Tiche Udoli back to Roztoky; here, you can pick up a train back to Prague. The ride is a total of 23 km, the route is mostly flat, but there is a climb at the end. Roztoky train station is in the village center, and there are frequent services to Praha Masarykovo Nadrazi and Praha Holesovice.

Karez to Plzen

Are you looking for a big cycling adventure with family and friends? This cycling route is the best. The trail is challenging as it takes you across a former military range at Brdy, has lunch in the town of Rokycany and ends at the nation’s most famous brewer in Plzen. Once you reach Plzen, you’ll begin by taking a train to Karez.

The route takes you through Brdy, a former military area now a nature reserve. The terrain is relatively hilly, so a bike with decent gear is essential. You will find occasional reminders of the area’s military past in the middle of unspoiled wilderness. In the wilderness, you will encounter an abandoned runway, followed by a hillside guarded by some moldering bunkers, the military still preserves a presence, so there are signs cautioning you not to leave the path and not to pick up things you might find lying around.

After exiting the military range, you will pass through the village of Strasice, where you’ll join route 3, which will take you towards lunch in Rokycany. You will then head to Plzen, where you enter the city from behind the brewery, cycling its perimeter wall up to the iconic front gate. On this trip, you should sacrifice a whole day.
